Last Fortress: Underground Games

Description

Last Fortress: Underground is a free-to-play mobile game that combines RPG teambuilding and tactics, base building, and alliance-based kingdom warfare. Build an underground base and carve out a safe place for your team of elite heroes to live!

Last Fortress: Underground can be described as a “greatest hits” for freemium mobile games. If you’ve played a base building game, a game with an overworld map and alliance battles, a turn-based auto battler, or a game with RPG-style upgrades, you’ll feel right at home.

This is both Last Fortress’ biggest strength and it’s biggest detractor. If you’re into these types of games and you’re well-versed in the vocabulary and ideas that surround similar freemium games, you’ll feel right at home in Last Fortress. You’ll be able to concentrate on the parts of the game that you enjoy the most, whether that’s the underground base building, the overworld empire building, the guild politics, or the turn-based battling system.

If you’re less experienced with mobile games, however, you’ll probably find the interplay between these elements tiring and confusing. There’s a lot of interplay between all of the elements of the game, and while you can certainly choose which parts you want to concentrate on, you’ll miss out if you don’t do a little bit of everything. With so much to do, the game can seem daunting or difficult.

Last Fortress also can feel tedious at times. The interplay between so many different gameplay elements gives you the feeling like there’s lots to do, with the next big upgrade just around the corner. On the other hand, it also means that you never feel like you’re done. While you’ll hit a big power spike or a critical upgrade level every so often, the sheer amount of stuff that the game offers can feel tiring or daunting every once in a while.

The underground base building in Last Fortress feels like it’s right out of a game like Fallout Shelter. You can assign workers to passively perform tasks, build new rooms, upgrade buildings, and more.

To clear out new rooms, you’ll often have to take a team of heroes into team combat mode and defeat enemies. You can extract valuable resources from these new rooms – or just put big buildings there. Using your base, you can generate resources to build powerful combat teams, increase your alliance’s power, and more.

The turn-based combat in Last Fortress is more of an autobattler than a cerebral game of thinking. Each hero attacks in a preset pattern and does their stuff fully automatically. It’s still helpful to think of combat in turns, however, as mastering PVP will require you to build teams of heroes with AI patterns that complement each other. Syncing up your attacks is the key to victory over other players.

Last Fortress’ PVP and guild-based content are great for socializing with people with similar interests. Many players enjoy opening the game and relaxing with their alliance mates. Finding the right group might not be instant, but there are lots of welcoming communities in the Last Fortress ecosystem.

Last Fortress: Underground is a freemium game that will entice you to spend money to get ahead. Here are some tips to maximize your enjoyment without emptying your wallet.

First, Last Fortress: Underground is a typical game with sharp diminishing returns on your time. Logging in and doing dailies, progressing the battle pass, and doing a few basic activities will give you lots of resources. Playing for hours past that point will give you a bit more stuff, but not as much as you might think. If you feel like you’re at a plateau, try just logging on and doing basic things for a week or so. You’ll probably get the resources you need to make some big upgrades with very little time spent.

Second, Last Fortress: Underground has a lot of luck when it comes to acquiring heroes. This means that you shouldn’t obsess over getting the “meta” heroes. Sure, it’s a good idea to concentrate your resources in a way that will give you a good chance of acquiring them, but you don’t NEED any particular unit. Instead, focus on playing to the strengths of the heroes that you can acquire easily.

Finally, consider your units’ attack patterns when assembling teams. Heroes that attack the front line are okay, but they’ll usually get stuck attacking tanks. Stacking heroes that attack the hero with the highest attack or lowest agility can work wonders. You can also use heroes that hit the whole backline. Be careful about how you combine these, however, as using a DPS that hits the frontline, a DPS that hits the highest attack, and a dps that hits the lowest agility will often result in your team attacking three separate targets. This usually means you’ll lose.
